Which side are you on Canon or Nikon or other?
Nikon

What's your favorite lens to shoot with?
85 or 105mm

What does most of your work consist of?
Either - depending on the situation

Are you from the area? Why do you live in the midwest?
I grew up in Cleveland, then moved to Florida, and now I'm back in the midwest. We're closer to family here, and it's nice to have seasons!

Tell us a little bit about your family...
My wife Bonnie and I have two little kids, Shelby and Peter. They keep us on our toes.

How long have you been in business?
~ 7 years part-time and the last 2 have been full time.

What got you started in photography? And how did you build your skill set?
I started with a black and white film class in high school. My dad and I actually set up a darkroom in our house–only we didn't realize until after the fact that the ventilation was less than adequate...

What type of photography do you specialize in?
I work with families on location. In the studio, I do headshots and commercial work. It's a pleasure working with other small business owners and helping them market their work.

Who or what do you END UP photographing the most? Why? (if different lol)
I've been doing lots and lots of networking, so lately the focus of my business has been headshots & commercial projects.

What are the names of 1 or 2 photographers that inspire you?
Greg Heisler and Joe McNally

What is the hardest thing about being a photographer?
Coming from corporate america, the biggest challenge for me has been focusing on only a few key priorities at a time. There's no one else to help you prioritize.

What has been surprising easy? (if anything)
My business background has allowed me to jumpright into working small businesses. I find I'm often able to provide some help with marketing as well.

Would you be willing to briefly tell about a time that you were afraid in your business? And how you worked through that?
A little fear is good. It keeps me alert and ready to respond to changes on a moment's notice.

If you could share one piece of advice with a photographer just starting out, what would you tell them?
The idea that you'll spend maybe 20% of your time shooting is optimistic.

Why did you decide to be part of Studio Share Photography?
The studio is ideal for my headshot business. It's a consistent environment so I can provide a consistent product to my clients.

If you've been a member for any length of time, how have you seen your business grow?
It's great bringing new clients to the studio. They're always amazed what goes into a full service studio. A great client experience is crucial, and my clients appreciate what the studio adds - and they tell their friends & colleagues!

5 Years from now, where do you see yourself and your business?
I take life and business one day at a time.

Would you rather stay up late or get up early to edit?
Get up early to edit

Would you rather eat something sweet, salty or both?
sweet and salty
